Look for Me at the Art-O-Mat

I keep forgetting to mention where my little works of art can be found. Look for my "Dreams" in the Art-O-Mat machines at: City Visitor's Bureau in Winston-Salem, NC Erie Art Museum in PA Contemporary Museum Shop in Honolulu, HI Amarillo Art Museum in TX. I would love any feed back from those who have visited an Art-O-Mat machine.

Bits and Pieces for Art-o-Mat

Nikki Wheeler Blowing in the Wind art o mat I've been busy creating a new series for Art-O-Mat call "Bits and Pieces." I sewed together the little pieces that I trimmed from my larger quilts and postcards. This little pieces, title "Blowing in the Wind" was born when I realized Contrary Sunflower wasn't standing up straight--of course, after I had sewed on the yarn trim. Out came the rotary cutter and I was left with some long strips edged with eyelash yarn. These came together for some fun mini quilts.

Art-O-Mat Adventure

I'm embarquing on my first adventure in selling my art. Today I sent off a box with 50 little boxes filled with my "Dreams" series to Artists in Cellophane. They sell 2"x3" pieces of art from old cigarette machines. These machines are located in stores, museums, and colleges through the country. For a $5 token someone can purchase a little piece of art in the same way as a candy bar or soda. The program isn't really a money maker for the artist, but is a fun way to step into selling. I'm more interested in sharing my work than the money anyways, so I don't mind the salary of $2 per hour. It seems that money is only an issue when I worry about and I would prefer that my art is about joy. My only hope is someday I will be able to pay for my addiction to supply shopping.

I'm very excited to find out where my little works end up. I will share the location of the machine when I find out, but that most likely will be months away. A lesson in patience. Hopefully those who buy them will find as much joy in them as I have had in creating them.

Drownding in Beads

I went a little overboard making fabric beads after reading about the technique in Quilting Arts magazine. They made me think of Dreams -- more the hopes and dreams type, not the asleep type. It may be because I am starting on this new adventure and daring to dream about the future. The beads are these little bundles rolled up like a scroll. They seem to be holding some little secret inside. It you take off that ribbon, they might escape and come to life. These are some ATCs that I made with the beads. When I wrapped the beads in strips of fabric they reminded me of bandages. My mini quilt I named Bandaged Dreams. I showed it to my husband and told him it even had a name. His response was "Wow, very profound. You are a real artist." I don't know about that. I just love working with the colors and textures. The others I don't have such profound names, but they each solicit different ideas and feelings. Secret Dreams Golden Dreams Growing Dreams Stormy Dreams Wild Dreams
